Internal Links: Increase Search Rankings and Visitor Satisfaction

12 Jun 2007 by jason

Incoming links are great for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). But did you know that internal links are also a great way to increase you search engine rankings?

Incoming links usually point to a home page only. Search Engine crawlers (or spiders) crawl links and index pages as they find them. A proper internal linking structure can influence the crawlers to index additional pages on your website, which will lead to greater search engine rankings.

It is better for your visitors, too. If your links are informative and keyword-rich, more visitors will click on them, and more search engines will index them. It’s win-win.

Remember that search engines don’t read flash, so if your links are flash or image based, you may want to include additional text-based links, preferably at the top of the page, for the benefit of the search engine crawlers.

Don’t be the weakest link! Use a sound internal linking structure to optimise your website for search engines and visitors at the same time.
