Essential Tips for SEO Success

Search Engine Optimisation can be tricky. There are many elements to understand when it comes to search engines. These can be used to encourage higher search results for your website.

We have assembled some of the best tips to get you started:

  • Learn how search engines work. They ‘crawl’ pages, make judgements, and index them. They are only able to read certain types of content, however, so make sure they see what you want them to see.
  • Build links. Links are the currency of the web, and the more websites that link to yours, the higher your search engine results will be.
  • These links must be relevant and of good quality. A link is a ‘vote’ for your website – but not all votes are equal.
  • Research the best keywords. There are tools available for this, but some are better than others.
  • Use these keywords. Feature them in your headings and content, in metatags, even the URL if possible.
  • Keep updating your website. Search engines favour fresh websites.
  • Keep optimising your website for search engines. This is an ongoing process, not a once-off improvement.
  • Keep abreast of technological improvements and news. This is a field that is constantly changing.
  • Try paid search, but remember this still needs to be optimised and usually has a lower click-through rate than organic or ‘natural’ results.
  • Use a reputable SEO company that won’t use shady tactics and potentially get your website penalised.
  • Remember that high rankings are just one part of online success. Your new visitors are one mouse click away from leaving if your page doesn’t immediately give them what they want – so pay careful attention to your landing page.
