It’s time to take notice of the online world
Too many companies cannot quite see what is going on out there in the world of online media. There could be countless opportunities going to waste.
Simon Canning wrote in The Australian on Monday that most big companies are blind to the marketing opportunities of emerging online media. They are still too reliant on traditional media, such as TV, when “much of the real debate and interaction about their companies is taking place online”.
People out there are discussing their brands - and most companies don’t have a clue what is being said. There is a lot happenning in the digital world; Blogs and forums are only part of the powerful conversation that is going on. And it is not only the big brands that are being discussed.
But I don’t mean to frighten anyone. The internet is providing some great opportunities that anyone can take advantage of, with a little guidance, and these things can be monitored.
It’s not ignorance that is preventing many companies from taking advantage of online media, so much as that oh-so-precious commodity of time. But if you can get the right people to monitor it for you, you could be surprised at what you will find.
There’s big world out there, and it’s growing. Are you ready?
