With so many changes and rapid growth in the field of online or internet marketing, it has never been more important for companies to have a clear and effective online strategy...

.... an ‘online presence’ is simply no longer enough.

Essential tips for Using Your Landing Page to Convert

18 May 2007 by jason

When searchers arrive at your website, they expect to see what they have been searching for. The ‘back’ button is just a click away if they don’t like what they see. Your landing page should capture attention, and convert visitors into clients.

We have assembled some of the best tips to get you started:

  • Don’t guess what works and what doesn’t. Test things like colour, hyperlinks, coupons, fonts, calls to action, free gifts, opening and closing sentences, images, and anything else that could be important.
  • Testing all these things one at a time can be a huge task. Use Multivariate testing to test multiple factors at once.
  • Determine your goal for the landing page – just one – whether it is to get leads, subscriptions, click-throughs, or whatever you need. This is not a general page, but a specific single purpose page.
  • Keep it simple. Don’t clutter them or confuse clients. They are about achieving a specific goal.
  • Ensure the headline refers directly to the place the visitor came from.
  • Use the AIDA formula: Grab their attention, feed their interest, enhance their desire, and encourage action.
  • Build trust: Say a little about your company, announce that you are a secure server, offer live help via phone or chat, give contact information, use testimonials, demonstrate generous guarantees and return policies,.
  • Track your conversion rate. Work to improve it.
  • Make it easy and reassuring for visitors to fill in forms. Don’t ask for too much information and assure them you will use their information ethically.
  • Don’t forget to include a strong call to action.
