Thanks guys for the positive response.

Melih, no doubt in saying that Google is the search behemoth, and I agree with you completely in covering other search engines for local search but sites like yelp and ask have less than 1% of search traffic amongst Australians... As for Yahoo and Bing, combined they both share an admirable percentage of search in Australia but I personally don't think it is noteworthy enough to tailor SEO strategies accordingly.

As for mobile... Totally agree that it is a growing trend that should be monitored closely, but again, Google has already dominated this platform with it's free smart phone applications for download - and perhaps soon to be, the launch of it's very own smart phone (see the following: http://bit.ly/528y6p). So again, for the time being I think Google is still the ultimate King Kong in this arena!

As for the link - it's an interesting idea, but I think with a little more education on where to look companies could be doing this type of thing themselves? Maintaining multiple businesses is quite easy particularly if you're managing all listings via the same account in Google... It's getting past the initial set up of multiple listings, that's the real nut buster

Darryl, I couldn't agree with you more about being driven insane. One point on No.3, Google will rank a local site that has been optimized over a national brand if it applies locally. The biz listing will Not necessarily be in the map. No. 1 organic listing, page 3 or 4 in the biz listing. Doesn't really make much sense.

Hello,

One thing I have noticed is that a long of writings are focused on Google when it comes to local business listings. The concern I have is that we're missing Yahoo, Bing, Yelp, Ask, Local.com and up to 30 other websites.

Lets keep in mind that Local.com recently went public and Wall Street is backing this company.

While Google is the 800 lb Gorilla on the web, when it comes to Mobile Marketing, Mobile Devices and Mobile Applications ultimately the application developers are going to be the ones that will decide which database they want to use. Google may not be the only source.

Additionally, most businesses do not have the time resources to maintain all locations regularly. This is where I found the company nominated by KillerStartUps to be interesting to help businesses. Take a look.

2010 will be interesting with Local Listing and the Mobile industry.
